My boat stays out on a mooring and outboard flushing is a big problem. Can you confirm my understanding that the Mercury 4-6hp engines can be flushed from a pressurised supply attached at the engine head and without the engine running (The handbook specifically states NOT to run the engine!!) I have a friend who does just this with a garden spray bottle on his older model 6hp Mercury and it has worked well for many years. I am thinking that apart from attaching the hose I might not even need to lift the engine out of the outboard well.

Yes, this is correct. The flushing adaptor is required to attach the hose too. The large headed bolt on the underside of the lower cowling has to be removed and the adaptor screwed in its place. Then simply turn your hose on. The adaptor has to be removed after use and bolt replaced.

Hi I've recently bought a small sailboat which has a mercury remote fitted.it looks a pretty up to date model.There is no cable with it. Question is if I buy a mercury 5hp can get the cable aswell?

Are you talking about the throttle and gear cables? If you buy a mercury 5hp to use with a remote control, you will also need to but a remote control attaching kit and the cables.

Please can you tell me the measurement from the transom bracket to the lowest point on the fin. I need to replace a Yamaha Malta 3hp currently used on my Memory 19 sailing boat.

Depending on what shaft you require the measurements for a 4, 5 or 6hp Mercury are: Standard Shaft 655mm and long shaft 782mm

The kit is not available from our website, as we found customers would order the wrong one for the outboard. We can order these for you but we would require your engine number, length of cables required, what type of control box etc
